Fellowship Activities Committee Action Plan

Purpose:   This committee promotes acquaintance and friendship among the members, promotes participation by members in organized Rotary recreational and social activities, assists the president in arranging for greeters, and participants in club program ceremonies, and does such work in pursuance of the general objects of the club as may be assigned by the president or the board.

Structure :   We have twelve (12) people on the committee, and each member is assigned one month to coordinate the various fellowship needs for each Tuesday afternoon meeting (i.e. invocation, pledge, singing, etc.).  All 12 members help plan and implement one club wide social event, and when there is a special event on Tuesday, we plan and decorate tables accordingly.

Timing and Sequence :   For Tuesday afternoon meetings each week, the committee is responsible for planning and implementing the following fellowship activities: Greeters (2 shifts per meeting, 11:30-12:00 and 12:00-12:30), an Invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, a Song with a Piano Player, and Introductions.  Also, we are responsible for planning one club wide social event.  We begin planning for that in the fall.  When a club member is hospitalized or experiences a death in the immediate family, we send a card to them, also.      

Budget : $1,600

Reporting Requirements :  We give our plans to Chris Comeaux, Director for Club Service.

Unique Requirements/Action Steps (Please be thorough and specific) : For every Tuesday meeting during the Rotary year, each member of the committee of twelve (12) is assigned a month of the year in which that committee member is to enlist club members, especially new members, for the following assignments: 1.) One person to greet from 11:30 a.m.-12;00 and another person to greet from 12:00-12:30 a.m.; 2.) One person to give an invocation (it needs to be understood that we have at least two faith groups represented in the club, so it is recommended that a doxology be omitted at the end of the prayer.  Amen is the preferred ending to public prayers.); 3.) One person to lead the club in the Pledge of Allegiance; 4.) One person to lead the club in a song (normally, we sing a patriotic song, but we also plan to introduce the state song of North Carolina.  It is acceptable to use another familiar song, i.e. Take me out to the ballgame.)

and one person to play the piano (we have three people who are willing to play the piano: Rita Hood plays the most, Dave Sink and Peggy Judkins.);  and 5.) One person to make introductions of visiting Rotarians and guests of Rotarians: this person needs to contact the attendance table for names of visiting Rotarians, and during this segment of the program to ask table row by table row for our club members to introduce their guests. 

            In the fall, we plan for one club wide social activity that will be in the spring.
