Title:
Water for Kenya Joint Project - GG1412700

Purpose
The Rotary District of Western North Carolina, District 7670, will lead a joint water well project in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, Africa which will provide access to a source of clean, sustainable well water in the remote Maasai community of Eorr Enkitok. The Rotary Club of Hendersonville is the program manager for this project for the district.

Structure
This joint project with District 5490 (Grand Canyon North) and District 9212 (Kenya, Eretria, South Sudan) and the host club of Naivasha, Kenya, plans to drill a deep water well and construct a gravity pipeline system that will provide sustainable access to clean well water to the community’s schools, clinics and village public sites along a ten kilometer route. This water system will serve about seven thousand people.
District 7670 and 5490 will share the funding of this project.

Timing & Sequence
December 2013 – Receive final project plan and bids from Kenyan contractors.
January- February 2014 – Completion of fundraising and Global Grant submission.
February - April 2014 – Conduct geological survey, final site selection, obtain government permits, site preparation, drilling and well completion.
April - July 2014 – Phase ONE construction of initial pipeline distribution system (lay pipe, install water tanks, construct point of service kiosks and animal water troughs).
August - November 2014- Phase TWO complete final pipeline distribution system. Conduct sustainability training for community members.
November 2014 - February 2015 Complete sustainability training and assessment.
March/April 2015 – Make final global grant report to Rotary International.

Budget
Total budget required for this project is estimated at about $105,000.

Reporting Requirements
In accordance with the new Rotary Global Grants guidelines, the host club of Naivasha, Kenya, as the project lead responsible for execution and is responsible for making the progress and final reports to Rotary International. District 7670 will assist.
